Lacrosse Advances in State Tournament

#14 Xaverian lacrosse defeated #19 Barnstable 14-5 on Wednesday during the preliminary round of the MIAA Division 1 State Tournament. The Hawks advance to face #3 Masconomet on Saturday. Xaverian Volleyball Upsets Blackstone Valley

Senior Captain Matt Stewart sizes up the competition as #5 Xaverian volleyball upset #4 Blackstone Valley Regional High School on Tuesday during the MIAA Central Division 1 Quarterfinals. The Hawks won the match in three straight sets, advancing to the Division Semifinals, to be played Friday at 7pm. Volleyball Advances

#5 Xaverian varsity volleyball defeated #12 Medfield on Thursday during the first round of MIAA State Tournament play. The Hawks (15-4) won three consecutive sets to advance to the Central Division Quarterfinals. Xaverian will play the winner of Friday’s game between #4 Blackstone Valley and #13 South High. Hawks Soar to Playoffs

Xaverian Senior Jason Pink sets up a teammate during a recent volleyball match. After finishing the regular season with a 14-4 record, the volleyball team will begin state tournament play tonight at 7pm. Baseball, lacrosse, ultimate frisbee, and members of the track and tennis teams have also qualified for postseason action this spring. Spring Awards Convocation

The spring awards convocation was held Wednesday, May 24, recognizing students who earned honors in the second and third term, and students who received awards in extracurricular activities and clubs, athletics and campus ministry. Book awards and the Kevin Connors Scholarship were also given out. The spirit awards were given to (pictured above) Nick Barrett ’15, Padraig Sullivan ’14, Bryan Lowe ’13 and Liam Driscoll ’13. The student of the year awards were given to John Walsh ’13, Joseph Tenaglia ’14, Dean Adams ’14 and Ryan Plunkett ’15.

Congratulations Graduates

Commencement exercises for the Class of 2012 took place on Friday, May 18. Headmaster, Brother Daniel E. Skala, C.F.X., Ph.D., presented diplomas to 224 graduating seniors.

The ceremony, which marked the 46th graduating class, included the recognition of the 9,000th graduate, Andrew Malin, and the presentation of the Xaverian Award, which went to valedictorian and resident of South Weymouth, Sean Tenaglia. The Xaverian Award is given to a graduating senior who has demonstrated leadership and service, and served as a role model for his classmates. Sean “become known for his sincerity and strong work ethic, and was a stunning embodiment of Xaverian’s highest ideals,” said Brother Dan.

The student speakers were Sean Tenaglia, valedictorian, and Naman Agarwal, salutatorian and a resident of Franklin. The loyalty and service awards, which recognize students’ involvement and commitment to the Xaverian community, were given to Christopher Diehl, Michael Hagerty, Nam Hee Kim, Anif McDonald, Luke Walsh and Samuel Zatkowski.
