The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers have been recognizing talented students since 1923. Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have been won by Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford and Joyce Carol Oates.
This year, Xaverian students Mark Fitton, Ed Einsidler, MinJu Kim, Ben Reynolds, Jay Pourbaix, and Joe Spadoni have been added to the prestigious list of Scholastic Art & Writing Award winners.
Mark Fitton, and Ed Einsidler each won Gold Key Awards for their Photography Portfolios. Mark Fitton also won a Gold Key, Silver Key & Honorable Mention for individual photographs. Ed Einsidler also won an Honorable Mention for one of his photographs. MinJu Kim won a Gold Key and two Silver Keys for his drawings. Ben Reynolds won two Silver Keys for his drawings. Jay Pourbaix won an Honorable Mention for his Architectural Model. Joe Spadoni won an Honorable Mention for his photograph.
The Gold and Silver Key winners will have their work on display at the Transportation Building in Boston until March 10. Students will be honored at an awards ceremony held March 6 at the John Hancock Auditorium in Boston.
